Anyone get Farming to produce?

I water one day, the next day they look like they started over.

There is a row where that yellow line is.  Very difficult to see.

    Instructions from the book:

Here is the instructions at the farm.

It seems that they do look dead every day.  But I was able to harvest the fluffy ones on a different plat that has had identical care.

Same thing happened to husband's plot on, i think it was the second day. The row was empty. He thought the plants had disappeared and he had to plant again. But after he watered the plants appeared.

That for sure wasn't the case with me. When my plants disappeared on day four I couldn't water and the plot no longer belonged to me.

I thought I was figuring this out but all the plants on this farm just cycled.

Around 8:10C.  All the plants on the farm reverted, even the ones I just watered.

    Here they are now:

I had just watered all these,  I harvested 4 plants on the first plot. The ones I showed a pic of in the first post are now new looking plants.  I can not harvest those now.  But I just harvested those other 4.  I harvested Nightshade and Ginseng.

I should have been able to harvest that Nightshade and Ginseng from the plants in the first picture, they were nice and fluffy after I watered them.  Now I can not.

My Yields from the 4 plants were correct.  over 400 Nightshade and Ginger. Woot.

Here is the current plant type menu we can plant:

So, the system works, but plants reverting to un gatherable and brand new daily is very confusing.

I should be able to harvest the plants on the original plot when they change states again.

Went back today.  Plants look pretty ugly.  Watered plants, they look better.  I was able to harvest the fluffy ones that I should have been able to harvest yesterday.   Then I replanted in the spots where I harvested.

Ill be on vacation Til Nov 4th.  So, can't do any more screenshots easy. @Mariah, you can use any of my pics that you need.  I will see if I can water plants each day tho.  I can do more with this farming when back.

I have some questions that could help if answered.

    1.  On the screen where you buy plants:
    a. Why does garlic and Mandrake root take more than 20 days and produce half of Ginseng and Nightshade which take 4 and 6 days?
    b. Why does cotton and flax take so long to harvest and produce so little?

    2. What is happening at around 8 central each night to make the plants revert to a diff graphic?
    3. Does it matter what time I water?  Is watering like feeding Chicken Lizards where you have to do it 24 hours after you did the last one?  Or is watering any time during the day while shard is up?
    4.  The plants go through a period of being really small and blending into the rows,  its very difficult to find them.  Can this be resolved?  I had to set my mouse on the lowest dpi to find them to water.

@Kyronix ; Well I was going to water my plants while on vacation, but they changed to this graphic and I can not get a curser on the plants to water them.

Thats my plot on the corner.  Move mouse as slow as I can but cant get one plant to show up.

added:  I eventually found them by random clicking everywhere.  Glad the pitcher cuser does not say cant be used on that and go away.

I’m thinking it’s broken.  :D I’m gonna put my overalls away and wait until they say they’ve worked on it.  Then I’ll try farming again.

Thanks for keeping a record of how it went for you!

Mechanics work as intended is what I am seeing.  Its just difficult impossible to see the plants in that stage.  Not sure what you want worked out other than that.

Would be nice to have an answer to my questions above. @Kyronix

1: because that’s how different plants grow and produce different yields.

2: which graphic? Can you show an example?

3: it’s a 24 hour watering timer, the water status should be evident from the color

4: can you show a picture of what you are describing?

@Kyronix ; this picture.  There are 9 plants on this corner plot.  They blend into the ground.  4 of them were planted the day before. The others are older.

The plot next to it is also mine.  Where the sheep is.  I can't see three of those.

It seems the plant graphic is the same color as the ground.  I could see them after watering.  Making the "Dry plant" graphic a more black or a different green would help.

I am red/green color blind, so I don't see shades of brown like others do.  Can others see the plants in front of the guy in purple?

@Kyronix ; Here they are today, I watered yesterday.  I can not see this guys 9 plants on the corner.  I can barely see 6 of my other guys plants, they are the next plot by the hand.

Here is what they look like after watering.  Took 15 min to find all the plants.
    They are Garlic and Mandrake.

No, I also cannot see a difference in color.  To my knowledge I am not color blind.  It is very difficult to find exactly where the curser needs to go when watering.  Need to repeatedly keep trying to water and hope you get lucky.  All my plots (2accts on NL) act the same as you have shown above.  I water several times a day.  Every day the plot goes back to plain dirt field.

One of my plots has one area where when I water it ignores my command.  If I use the shovel I'll get a spot dug up.  However, I cannot plant a seed because it says there is already a seed planted.  Watering does nothing.  That area in the plot simply goes back to 'empty'.  Nothing will grow in that spot.

Maybe if one of the DEVs claim a plot they can see for themselves the problems?  I had to start over several times since beta, getting expensive.

Thanks.  The plants need a color during the looks dead stage. I'll post stages as I see them

I planted pic 2 last night.  It is also easy to see.

Notice the plants in picture 2 are full size.  I just planted those last night after 5pm.  Today since they were full size I decided to try to harvest them.  They did harvest.  I got full yields on every plant and have to begin again.  hehe

This may have been a bug...

Note to farmers.  Carry a reagent bag with you that reduces weight.

OK I've kinda figured this out.

    1.  Don't plant cotton or Flax, you can get wool from sheep that are all over the place now,  Thanks!  I have sheared over 200 wool while farming just standing in this field.
    2. Ginseng and Nightshade take 1 RL day to go from plant to Harvest.
    3. My Gallic took less than a week to harvest.

    Here is todays Picture.
    1. is beginning today, (I watered a garlic.)
    2. is what they looked like after watering.

At 11 AM Central    Was watering my plot, 4 spots would not show or allow me to water.  While I was there, all plots in the fields vanished.  Both Fields.  Other players were there and saw the same thing.

    Skara Brae fields.

Hate to keep spending the gold and as of now we have no way to know if the farming is fixed or broken.  Planting regs is VERY expensive, more so than purchase from Mage NPC.

Could we possibly get some feedback on the status of farming?

@kalsey ; The season changed to Fall.  Plots last until the season ends.

Have to buy a new plot and plant seeds.  The plant types we can grow did not change.

    Hello,

I almost posted when the seasons changed and I lost plants I'd been tending for many days, but I realized I'd not carefully read all the instructions on how farming worked. Some of the issues I experienced were "operator error".

I do wonder though, is there some way to know when seasons are about to change? That would be very helpful. I wouldn't want to lease a plot and plant a day or two before the change is to happen only to have plants disappear because the clock ran out. That's a waste of time and gold that doesn't seem necessary or fair to deal with.

Also, it seems the mandrake and garlic are taking a lot longer than expected. I tended one batch of mandrake for 17 real world days and the plants never became harvestable. They disappeared when the season changed.

I planted a second batch of mandrake the day after the season changed. It's been 42 UO days and my mandrake is still not harvestable. Mandrake is only supposed to take 24 UO days.

Has anyone else been able to harvest Mandrake? Is anyone else having trouble with the timer on the garlic as well? I've planted more garlic, I forget the exact date of planting, but I'm very sure it's been more than 22 UO days since planting and I should be able to harvest by now.

    Thanks

    HI,

The plants seem to run out of water once after shard maintenance. I went to the field yesterday and today right after maintenance and all plants were out of water.
Perhaps this is the reason why plants are not growing or growth is being reverted.

Here is an image taken just after maintenance

As for the change of seasons, if you hover your mouse pointer over the Britannian calendar on the wall of a bank or other institution, you will see the number of days until the next season.

    I hope this helps.

Plants go through a graphic cycle change at times other than server down. I've seen it happen at 8pm C and 11amC while I was at the field.

I plant nightshade and ginger daily in a field.  It harvests the next day.  You can harvest those dry looking plants.  Since Mandrake takes 6 days.  We should have the 24 day Mandrake root ready tomorrow.

Mine are the first 3 plots on that field.

Tetsujin, Thanks so much for pointing out the calendar. I had no idea that such a thing existed. That knowledge will definitely make a difference.

Pawain, You say Mandrake takes 6 days, I'm assuming you are talking about real world days because the game says 24 UO days. The first time, I planted Mandrake on October 18th. When the seasons changed and my plants disappeared ( I think it was November 4th), I had been watering them daily (real world) and was not able to harvest them after 17 real world days. I have no idea how many UO days that encompassed (I wasn't aware that the scarecrow gave the date and season at the time). This go around, I planted them when the season changed to fall, September 5, 424 in Sosaria time. Tonight it is September 64, 424 in Sosaria. Unless I'm mistaken, that's 59 days of UO time. I just watered my mandrake and still cannot harvest. Am I missing something?

Regarding the Ginseng and Nightshade, I'm experiencing the same as you, I can harvest them the day after planting.

Thank you to you both for responding and sharing your information and experience.
