You can copy a Ship Key 

It will work to access/unlock the planks.  It will allow you to dry dock the ship so it recognized you as an owner.

Is it a bug that you cannot recall to the ship off the key?

    Strange that was how we always got to our ships when they were at sea.

    The key created when you place the boat works fine as does the one in the bank.

    None of the copies I've made though, will work to recall or gate to my boat.

    OK so it is just copied keys.
