Matriarch / Dragon nest advancement feedback


Broadsword, please take a look at changing the progress/work effort towards spawning the Matriarch.
e.g.
  1. Fewer burned maps needed to spawn the matriarch.
  2. Possibly scaled based on shard population.  (Less population = faster progress).

    Any idea what the messages are and which one is the last one.  I have not seen the Matriarch.

    I'm in favor of tweaking this part of the event as well. The issue is that this kind of acts like the MoE did by doing a map...but the maps are really kind of separate from this event (even though they are event rewards for maps) because the people really "getting the maps" are the dungeon crawlers but those aren't the toons that can do the maps. So people need to switch toons to do the maps and then it depends on how many people are actually doing maps to generate the matriarch. 

    It just has the feel that it's 2 separate events mashed together but missing some synergy. 

    I also think that unless you do a map, you won't ever get the notice the matriarch has spawned (unless you are sitting next to a town cryer) so I ended up missing one because my sampire was in a dungeon when it spawned and I had no idea because I hadn't gotten any maps to do at that point.

    Yes this needs improvement. 

    You don't need a special hunter.  My macer WWs the mobs in seconds.  Only used 12 durability on the weapon.

    Now would have been a perfect time, with so much temporary content going on, to split them up like last time with Manifestation. Run the ToT for scheduled 3 months, then run the Matriarch for however long after that. Or leave that sort of mechanic in the game permanently, the manifestation was a neat addition to the tmaps. There was never a reason to ever run them both simultaneously. I called the Matriarch being slow, even on Atlantic, especially now with the ToT and holiday stuff ramping up. Poorly planned.

    Do we have a running list anywhere of what specific drops there are from the matriarch (ie what type of clothing/etc)?

    I got an "Umbrascale Kilt" in a red color for doing the matriarch my first run and then the next time around I got a bag of 10 deco eggs (this is like rubble to me from the last event lol). 

    If the satchel drops are anything like the Mistas event... I'll never see a mature dragon egg since I'm assuming that's the obelisk comparison but at least with the Mistas event we sort of knew the cadence; with needing to do maps things are going to be very sporadic and vary greatly depending on how many ppl are actually burning maps. I don't love that blind approach.

    @Community Manager - Is there any way to remove the "hay" tags from the dragon nest OR make the "Nest" tag show on top at all times? When digging up a nest under trees (or corpses), it's impossible to see the nest itself to click so we need to use the crtl/shift tag show...and there are like 25 "hay" (and corpse) tags I need to click through to get to the actual nest.... little cumbersome when trying to simply open the nest.

    For EC users, you can set an objectfilter, I have mine set to this string:

    Nest|crate|chest|door

    Pickup the change listed here to allow proper functioning of the or (|) operator.

    Also really useful for finding your body under the pile of corpses.
    Just set filter to your name. (or part of)

    It also seems:
    1. Progress is lost when the shard is reset.  It appears at least all the north american shards were brought down about an hour ago.  (side question: what was this for?)
    2. Progress may be lost at daily shard maintenance, similiar to #1.

    It appears Atlantic is the shard where nests are active most of the day.  Other shards, not so much.
    Atlantic is a lag fest, once the boss pops there, it takes ages to get to the boss, if it's any distance from a way point/gate/etc.  Take a few steps, halt for a second, repeat.  There's also a hard hang when the boss dies, what's the server doing that takes several seconds?  Assigning loot bags should not lead to an freeze.  Seems like something interesting to troubleshoot.

    Those observations aside, it seems two specific things could be done to change the nest spawn dynamics:
    1. Increase the amount of Umbrascale drops in all nest levels, like double the amount.  That makes the economics of doing these nests more interesting.
    2. Treat the "lesser" eggs as turn in currency, like umbrascale drops.

    100 eggs for a size map that the devs determine, would get more players doing the nests.

    There's so many eggs, there is no place to put them there needs to be a vendor.

    i agree on this one, ill spend hours doin maps on my server without being able to summon her, most of the time i have to give up because i have to go to work or to bed.

    There should always be a way to turn in lesser stuff.. even if it's only clean up points.

    Saying hang on, we might do something in the future with those eggs.. it's like sayng hang on; we hvn't finish the event u guys are actually doing.
    So rather than recognise the effort the botters went to, to set all that up - for the benefit of the players, to help get certain items, something you could never be bothered to do, you would rather drag people backwards to your neanderthal world?

    Leave attended paying accounts alone, these people go thru a lot of trouble to automate the game.

    It’s comical to me you are so frightened of somehow bod scripters get some sort of advantage.

    There are other items from events they said hold onto,  Unfinished Table legs were supposed to be used again at a later date.  

    They need to plan all the little drops out, especially if there's a bazillion colors and types of an item.  We should know right away if they are just deco.

    They could do what they actually "planning" in a good way tho..

    The only event I played was the 3 part one in nov/dec 2024.. (wich made me quit UO; horrible gaming conditions)
    They had weird "satanic"  easy to get deco in phase 1.. on part 3 those artifacts could have become "ritual incantation" items, type of stuff.

    That I would sign for.. not what they doing right now, it's like oh wait.. players do not like the artificial hoarder bribe eggsy.. let's just (dot dot dot)

    Edit: I maintain.. it would be 100 times better to do them every ~18 months as permanent content with a few OP items and those items should have RNG rolls.. like the unique items from d2.. lots of replayability.

    This is a sandbox... as a returning player not playing on a lag fest server.. 95% of that heresy is unobtainable.. I legit have to sit around crossing fingers for easy to get BiS items to return on the heretic bribe table.
    This sucks.. like big time. They killing the game for short term success bribery.
    And if i'm ever strong/rich and rdy enough to go play with the big boy on ATL.. I CAN'T!! shard bound -.-

    FOMO can be great (like on skins).. here it's used in a VERY bad way.. like very very bad for the game longevity.
    NL is the best proof of that. They created a HUGE problem and bringing a D tier solution.

    It's like if from the start they knew they wanted to do those event on NL but needed 5-6 years to develop the theme park so meanwhile they did it on prodo with 0 balance.. like ATL it dies instant and some server can only do stuff on prime time. bad bad bad.

    I'm still thinking the niche to the niche server as an extraction server is BAD.
    They wanted their Dark and Darker project. This is what NL is going to be.. at best!
    Meanwhile prodo.. UO.. giving up.. *sad*

    PS: the saddest part is they already had that.. it just needed love.. stuff like champion spawn are extraction content.. They just feel powerless for prodo and i'd say CC to a certain limit..
    They try to do stuff on prodo (real bad stuff like repainting digital art over the art itself; our old dungeons)
    Now they are scared to do any perma changes on prodo.. they could lose the few players they have left.. meanwhile they totally trashing 95% of the content with OP items; totally ruining the game balance.. killing even more content cuz they scare to do perma one.. Sub as much as you can; we gonna shower you. *smh*

    It take someone with a vision, experience and cojones to deal with UO.. or we are doom.
    They could start small.. like one new server.. and NO I ain't talking about NL. I'm talking prodo.

    We should have tens of thousands of neck's beard grownmen playing UO.. still possible.

    Classic style when UO was at it's peak.. but do not do the same mistake.. certainly don't triple down on them.. fix them.. soften them.. Like bring back the linear line we had with a FEW extras like arti recipe with RNG rolls crafts.. bring back the few mods and the fun MFing.. the risk vs reward.. anyway.

    Or start working on prodo, like a legit shard (no transfer shield).. hardcap gears with the intensity point system per suit, bring back risk vs reward and good theorycrafting.. do good stuff for the game longevity.. We don't have another 5-6 years to build a classic UO.  ;)
