Ive bought 33 totems equalling 99 charges.

The first 45 charges resulted in
8 rares
1 very rare
1 uber rare.

the next 54 charges resulted in
2 rares
0 very rare
0 uber rare

did something change with these? why the drastic difference in results?

yes it is random but statistically speaking these results are significantly different. the results from the first 45 charges is understandable. the near ZERO results out of the next 54 is not. my average number of clydes per charge is 58. multiply that by the number of charges and that is 3,132. you cant tell me that only 2 rares, zero very rares and zero ubers is within that range.

This is my 2 cents but I have a feeling, nothing but a feeling, that the RNG distribution in UO is not uniform. I remember reading that some of the old RNG code in the past had that problem. I can understand the frustration on the totems. I felt very similar when using the totems on the mares 7-8 months ago; perhaps not to this level but it was enough disappointment to make me not purchase/use them again this time around for the Clydes.

That said, it would be more helpful if you could provide ballpark amounts of how many Clydes you are churning through per totem charge (or per hour) because if someone is taming them 1 by 1 and they don't insta spawn (the mares took about 5-10sec to respawn) resulting in a low number of Clydes cycled through per totem charge that might be the reason.

I think there is going to be a huge difference in RNG results from doing let's say 100 Clydes per hour (ie 1 totem) versus 500+ Clydes per hour (that's about about the number of mares I was doing an hour). It would also be helpful for us players to know how the RNG on colors worked in general... if a certain color (uber rare) is 1 in 5,000; does that mean typically mean in that spawn location or total shard (ie the color you are working towards might spawn elsewhere if they are actively spawning outside of your location).

Randomness needn’t be uniformly distributed. If you think they’re setting a straight percentage chances then, yeah maybe, but you’d be making an assumption on how they approach randomness.

In the end, it’s gambler’s fallacy to see such small sample sizes as meaningful. The reference to gambling is appropriate because the same psychological game is at play here, but at least it’s entirely for cosmetic rewards and hopefully your “donations” will support improvements to the game.

Don't waste your time with it. No need to keep dumping your hard earned cash if it is not working. At this point it is clear that those totems are UO version of gacha mechanics.

Wait another 3-6 months, some scripter will sell them to you for 300 mil or less. They are already around 800mil on atlantic. No need to dump 100$+ for something that is not working.... The explanation is in the name. it is a gacha mechanic, Got you to gambling mechanic. It is a gamble with your hard earned cash and the deck is stacked against you!! Do not waste your money...

Just my 2 cents.

yeah I don't think some of you are understanding the data provided. we are not talking about a dry spell over a short span. 18 hours, approximately 3132kills verses 15 hours 2610 kills. if the random generator was working there would be SOMETHING during that 18 hour time span with over 3k kills.

I am not encouraging the RMT. I am just doing the math to show how bad the deal is.

Instead of buying 33 totems from UO store, you could do RMT for 8 totems worth of cash. You would get the uber rare guaranteed. These chromatic totems are just a gamble with one of the worst odds against you. You could literally buy what you want for cheaper.

Some more reputable western sellers ask for 50$-55$ for a platinum.

Again, dont do RMT but wait couple months then buy one for 10 mil. A CU with same rarity was selling between 1mil to 5 mil sometime ago when I was looking for a red one. It is even less gold in smaller shards with less population.

Right now people can ask more gold for the Clydesdales because everyone is doing the event, and people did not have the time to start taming them.

I am sorry you were scammed/duped so bad for just a 2605. Just wait until after the event and buy one for 10 mil. Don't waste a penny of your hard earned dollars on the chromatic totem scam.

Anyway, this is already getting off target. Cant buy any clydes in game, Just look at how empty Luna is on ATL. It used to be full with ones for sale, now its empty. But yeah, nothing wrong with totems...........

I strongly disagree. In my opinion, the totems are gambling trap. You are more than welcome to keep paying for them though.

The totems are completely RNG based and depending on the mob will determine how rare a pet is to spawn. It is important to remember that while purchasing a totem increases your odds, it is *never* a guarantee you are going to get a rare or uber-rare pet.

A great example are Cu's. While using a totem could potentially increase your odds to get a blaze cu, it *never* guarantees it. It is all based on RNG. Sometimes it is kind and others it is not.

I can personally say that I have bought *MANY* of them (best example was the purple nightmares from the last taming). I used several on a DAILY basis, the entire time of the event (daily) and never *once* got a purple nightmare. While I watched others use it and get at least 5.

at what point would you believe it isn't working properly? would it hurt to look into it? the first 15 hours of use was decent. I am now up to over 50 hours of usage with nothing better than just 2 rares. IF you are going to tell me that this can be expected then you can keep these useless totems.

Vixen on LS has gotten all the colors on LS. They give away all but the last 4 colors. I think they are done.

When using Totems, you also want to make sure that you're turning the spawn over as fast as possible, which means killing them ASAP. Using a Tamer with a pack of Shadow Hounds/Wolf Spiders can kill them basically instantly, and then you have another Tamer on standby waiting to tame any Rares that spawn.

Yea, there is something wrong with the totems: pay to win system. I refuse to participate and I wish others would do the same so they wouldn't get rewarded for this type of BS. It's only going to get worse the more people buy in to it.
