Spring Roadmap Update

Posted on April 29, 2025 by UO Dev Team

4/29/2025

Greetings,

We hope you are enjoying Spring wherever you are! We’d like to give you an update on what you can look forward to in Publish 120 and beyond!

Publish 120 is currently slated for Word Wide Release this June – we hope to bring the first batch of Publish 120 to Test Center 1 later into May as it makes its way through development and QA. Some of the highlights include,

The Rifted Crown – Britannia has enjoyed a long period of peace and prosperity but the war drums will not remain silent forever. This exciting new live event will bring intrigue and surprises at every turn with:

  • The Siege – Forces have taken control of a strategically important city – where will you stand? This multi-faceted battle will be sure to test the mettle of even the most courageous. But, for those who survive great reward awaits!
  • The Clydesdale – ride into battle on this mighty steed, are the rumors of this creatures enchanted origins true?

Included in Publish 120 will also be our 28th Anniversary gifts which are slated for release in September – this year’s theme is orchids! Our talented art team has created some beautiful orchid arrangements to dress up both your house and character!

From the engineering front we are pleased to share our planned Classic Client upgrade is progressing on track and we expect a testable version later this summer.

Over the next few months we will be performing some required upgrades to both the UO.com website and UO Forums. The transition for the website will be seamless for the most part, except for our player wiki. There is a necessary migration for how we support our wiki and as such, it will take us some time to polish any formatting and layout issues following that migration. The UO Forums will require a necessary migration as well and will keep you posted on when this is planned. Our goal is to make these upgrades as seamless as possible for all users.

Following Publish 120, we return to New Legacy for Publish 3, where The Shattering event will begin to unfold! Followed by Publish 121 and a host of holiday fun that is slated for this fall.

We are also pleased to announce a new series, The Roadmap Roundtable. Unlocked through the unrelenting research of mages at the Lycaeum, we will be broadcasting live from Britannia as well as through the ethereal void thanks to the power of the Interdimensional Communication Crystal! We’ll be talking about New Legacy Publish 2, Publish 120, and taking your questions on all things Ultima Online on May 6th from 6-8pm ET on TC1 as well as our Twitch & YouTube channels.

See you in Britannia,
UO Team

We are set with Communication until September.  Sounds Fun!

Focus on what you can do, not what you can't.

Does Luna count as a "strategically important city"?

@Community Manager  Hook us up with a sneak peak of the new Clydesdale graphics.
Not too late to give equines a new ability, Thunder Hoof.
The RL ones come in many colors and patterns.

Would be interesting if they ported over some of the NL codebase for the quests.

Or New Magincia.  Would be hilarious, but they will probably stick to the mainland Britannia.

I would say Vesper or possibly Yew, maybe Minoc or Skara Brae.  Trinsic and Britain have been done too many times, and most of the others are too out of the way or too small.

My first though when reading this new information from uo.com was... quote " Britannia has enjoyed a long period of peace and prosperity.... "  UO is 28 years and its two months since ast dynamic event with fights in town like Britain, its hardly long period of peace and prosperity lol

but putting that text glitch aside, its good something new is comming. I hope some of this is permanent content also, and not only temporarily content. Would be nice to have something new to hunt outside the event times also.

As for my guess, its 1: spellbook invasion, 2: the 4 boss invasion with Stratos etc, 3: dynamic invasion.  Any of those with replaced - new rewards.

And I think all applies to the tram / feluca towns which is nps

I expect something like the previous event, with points and then redeem for whatever you want.

And to request, among the items there should be a Lieutenant of The Britannian Royal Guard type sash but improved special for the event.

    YESSSSSS

I swear if they break UOAssist with the client upgrade and continue leave the other clients alone I'm going to actually throw all my stuff on the ground and quit the game @Kyronix

Sounds like EC, with CC graphics?

Are there any paying customer submitted bugfixes / change requests slated for publish 120 ?  If so, where is the list? Thank you

On the latest interview, they mentioned updates to the “renderer”. I presume this could mean better scaling art, a resizable window, and higher fps. I doubt UI updates are in the cards right now, but it would be cool if they opened it up for easier modding like EC.
  • looploop Posts: 501
I don’t really play the CC much, but I don’t know that I’ve ever really ran into very many bugs with it. There are a lot of quirks and design flaws for sure, but a lot of that’s server-side or just a result of the client’s age. The EC, on the other hand…  :p
  • ForeverFunForeverFun Posts: 953
I would not be surprised if EC had more reported / present bugs than CC.  Afterall, EC has far more features than CC, and EC is a much larger installed program than CC.  On the other hand, users have accepted the tradeoffs of more functionality with EC for possibly more bugs.

It'd be a bit surprising to see a bunch of stuff added to CC, from scratch, that attempts to duplicate what has already been done in EC.  That could well lead to a different set of bugs than are already active.  That sounds like potential busy work.

Ehh think sun is setting on the EC. There’s a reason the team didn’t lead with the EC in any lead up to NL, and neither client is particularly relevant until they can get to one that looks half decent and is reasonably modern such that they can start cracking down on unofficial clients without starting an uprising.

I would love for the CC to get lockable spell icons/hot bars and please for the love of god fix the macro menu.  Its a horrible horrible interface and actually broken.  When you make a macro with say two actions - save it - then go back and add a third item they get out of order.  You actually have to delete a macro and start over to get it right.  Also you only show 2 actions at a time in the edit window - please give us like a list of 5.  That would cover most macros.  Also the scrolling to select things is super annoying. You can't pause scroll you have to active scroll to your item. Super annoying when trying to find a spell to be spinning up and down every spell known to man.  I would like to open the menu and be able to scroll with a drag bar down the side.  Lastly on macros how about adding to 'Mobile, Hostile, Friendly etc' add an option for nearest Mob or Monster.  I want to attack the nearest monster.  Sometimes its not hostile yet.  If I use nearest mobile then I get healers, players, dogs, cats etc.  I just want to attack the nearest monster even if its not hostile to me yet.

@Community Manager this isn’t directed at you, your doing a great job here and on all the other media locations as well.

    but be patient….? for what another 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 even 30 years maybe ?

I realize you can only repeat what they say not your fault at all for the usual vague responses / answers not sure they even know tbh.

Back then the teams knew when to quit when they could plainly see it wasn't working and to stop wasting time and resources and move on I guess?

I do wonder how KR could have been had they had 10x the resources seemed like the right path to go to bring in new players to updated graphics and a better client. I was in that beta it had some really good concepts but it was nauseating felt like we was on ice skates moving around and the graphics was like one big blurry smear. some of the art was really cool looking tho

If they kill the EC sucks but that be the end for me...I was forced to use cc after they killed kr and cc not for me. With the lack of new things and rampant cheating going unpunished that be it.

wow orchids for our house and for our character!!!

for our character... does that mean that we get to hold orchids? or maybe have an orchid lei ? or is a new dress with orchids all over it? can't wait to see what that would be like

And Clydesdale. what a wonderful idea
