New Player: Advice on Ninja and Progression.

Hello, new on Atlantic Shard. Name is Fishgoldor. I'm a Ninja/Gargoyle. I started recently. I was given some armor and a weapon and 2k gold from someone after playing for an hour and wandering around doing quests. This nice person took me to a local training spot and taught me some basics. I've been training in that spot and hoarding everything I loot in my bank. I subbed to get the unlimited bank space because I love to hoard stuff, but idk what any items are for. I'm just killing zombies as a bunny and training ninjutsu spells and hiding/stealth. My skills are around or near 50. When should I be doing dungeons? What else should I look into doing? I've just been going between the starter town and my training spot since I started.

Can a Garg go into tiger form?

You can go into dungeons anytime, there are easier things on the first levels.

Take a look at some of these quests, you can learn where things are and get some goodies.

Since u mention dungeon as a thief, read this: https://uo.com/wiki/ultima-online-wiki/combat/pvm-player-versus-monster/stealing-from-monsters/

Personally I like from time to time to go spend 25-60min at Fel covetous near the entrance, stealing from harpies while collecting feathers. (also a great way to lvl up ninjitsu around 85+ with death strike or with focus attack before that)

You gonna need to train stealing a bit more or get some stealing gears/jewelry.

PS: you took a shit template as a starter character.. specially for ATL. Thief gameplay is kinda limited.. almost niche.. and before it's GM++ it's kinda useless.. u can also add magery/meditation without evaluating to make things easier on your for now. (to heal urself, invisible yourself; like after stealing, or to pop some energy vortex later on)
And from memory all u need in stealth is 80.. maybe 90 to stealth at 100% in leather armor (never missing a shadow jump) and don't over train stealing u have many gears to boost your stealing.

    Edit: to give you an idea.. thief got a lot of gears with extra skill on it;

I was not done building it while being build for a recent event.. just to give u an idea. (show real skill vs boosted with items)

So rather than recognise the effort the botters went to, to set all that up - for the benefit of the players, to help get certain items, something you could never be bothered to do, you would rather drag people backwards to your neanderthal world?

Leave attended paying accounts alone, these people go thru a lot of trouble to play/automate the game.

If you want to raise ninjitsu, stand in a safe place and do the following, mirror image and attack your image with the Focus Attack spell, in a loop.

When you have Surprise Attack level, do the same but with this spell.

When you have the level to do Death Strike, do the same but with this spell, because it will be faster.

If it seems too heavy and you want more dynamic, go to New Haven, the undead creatures (area training) will not attack you, so go against them doing Focus Attack, Surprise Attack and when you have level Death Strike according to your skill.

I have this skill at 120 and I'm telling you up front, it's possibly one of the most sacrificial skills out there.

Considering that you are new, the question is key, why do you want this skill, is it to attack in the shadows and move in the shadows?

With hidding and stealth and flying like gargoyle you can evade many situations, you can choose to replace ninjitsu by other less sacrificed skills, ninjitsu is mainly used by assassins and felucca scouts.

Courage in your adventure, I attach some generic guides in case they help you.

    I liked that suggestion.

Hey @Cakewolf! Always exciting to see new players start their Ultima Online journey like yourself. ^_^

I guess the one piece of advice I would give you as a new player is to take a moment to check out the New Legacy seasonal shard too. It's a great way for new players to learn the ropes of the game.

Other than than, welcome to the greatest MMORPG ever and let me know if I can be of any help to you on your new player journey!

I have to semi disagree as NL is so vastly different from production UO that it's a terrible place for new players to learn about UO

As an arguably new player to Ultima Online, I would politely disagree with your disagreement @Grimbeard <3

    For two main reasons.

    A. Progressing a character on New Legacy takes no time at all through the Narrative Quest system.

    B. You actually have to play your character to progress your Narrative Quest. It's not about finding the most efficient way to repeat the same action over and over again to skill cap.

    C. It does significantly streamline the Ultima Online experience, making it overall less overwhelming for new players. And I should know, as a new player that has played on Atlantic before.

I started my Ultima Online journey 5 years ago on the Atlantic shard and spent some months developing a Gargoyle Mystic/Thrower.

It has been 10x more satisfying and interesting for me playing on New Legacy as as a new player than it ever was starting on Atlantic as a new player.

This is why I personally believe New Legacy is a much better experience for entirely new players checking out Ultima Online for the first time.

Also items are at max intensity on NL already.

You can find invulnerable armor on the ground.  I doubt a new player on prodo shards can find the best armor being dropped on the ground.  Drop a few paladin vambraces near me pls.
Focus on what you can do, not what you can't.

    Three gotchas here :p

Gargoyle will be harder to gear off the bat since New Haven critters won’t drop gargoyle gear.

Gargoyle melee is even rockier, mostly in the long term due to imbalances with its slotting.

Stealth ninja is pretty niche and mechanically convoluted in PVM.

At its core though UO is a sandbox and you should pursue what you want. Just stick to undead in New Haven and then elementals in the dungeon right outside it. Do the new player skill quests.

Concur that NL would be a good place to start if you want a simplified experience with accelerated skill gain (no gargs there). After the season ends you’ll be able to transfer your character off NL.

lol, that dude said he was a new player.. find out he's been playing for 5 years?  :/

New Heresy: Theme Park Legacy is the best BS can offer for UO with the EC.. go try them both!

You will find Kroduk reads between the lines so much better than most of us, he even see's things that do not exist. :)

Having said that, his point about trying Harpies at Covetous entrance was a good one, although I see you did not mention thief.

One thing I like to do early on with a new character, are the Solens outside Wind. just above Despise, then following up with the Solen quests inside the tunnels. As a levelling character, the solens are ideal, and build up your stock of zoogi fungus, bags of sending, that you can use in the rest of your hunting/questing. With a stock of these, you can hit IDOCs - announced at various points and be finding loot and sending back to bank.

You may want to build up Sacrifice Virtue for easier self-ressing at points, I find the mages at the entrance of Fire dungeon are good for this, or liches, or Lich Lords even - and you can get basic starter equipment off them.

Think about joining a guild, to do Roof, or Champion spawns, for scrolls, or armour. Think about joining VvV for some of the rewards there. Think about gaining Town Loyalty, for an additional buff, choose a town, choose the correct buff for you.

I'm not a ninja/hiding specialist in its own right, Ninja is often linked with pvp, hiding/stealth often with a thief of some sort, which can then expand your play in a certain direction. So if your character is a pure specialised pvm ninja, that is an interesting one, and off the top of my head, I cannot think of a specific direction of travel. My Ninja specific character is in fact Red, and is used as a Scout in Felucca (which would mess up both the Virtue and Town Buff concept, so don't go red, stay blue, you can scout also as a blue).

Was not talking about you but about @DM_Wyvern saying he's new on another thread that he also derailed about NL. (NL is good for new players.. like himself he said)

He's not wrong, my toolbox is just better.. just the fact a new player talking about using ninjitsu and receiving 2k gold.. u clearly not doing a PvP Ninja garg build.. so I was pushing u toward a "clean" PvM build for ninja.. a thief ;)

Cuz, if u don't u gonna end up being a ranged PvM users with very weak DPS (using hiding and stealth on a garg ninja)

@Cookie I get why he got confused.. he might have skip entirely that NL post made by DM on his ninja thread, specifying he's playing since 5 yrs.. but for you to not see the irony about my NL and EC sentence.. is  :#
Read the room son.. u don't see barelly hidden things and missing the obvious.. at first (when wefirst met on my PvP post last august) I thought u were doing disinformation has an affiliates/"volunteers", while promoting your favorite cheat engine.. I thought way too high of you. ^^
