Transmogrify Armor Set Piece

Hi everyone.  Can someone please help me?  I cannot find anything out there on this, nor could anyone help me in the help channel on Atlantic.  I have an armor set and I want to transmog the properties of the head piece of that set onto a clean circlet.  I'm worried the magic of the pieces will no longer combine if I do it.  Does anyone know?  Will it know it's still part of an armor set?  Will it also keep the self repair?
I tried to transfer my character to the test shard to try it there so I don't waste my potion and possibly ruin my head piece, but character transfer seems to have been down all day.

    It worked on Test Center with the Sorcerers suit head.

    Yep I transmogged the football helmet of the journeyman’s armor to a Kasa on Origin with no issues

    I put the stats from Darden's Armor onto a circlet from the Titan Invasions.
    The self repair works great
