Is Hawkwind crazy? Defeat Meraktus?

Except for barding, I haven't done any skill mastery quests yet.  Hawkwind gave one of my characters (necro/mystic/spellweaver) on low-population shard the task of defeating Meraktus.  I looked it up, and to even get to him, you have to defeat a big spawn first.  Is this task possible for a player gaming solo?  Maybe I'm just chicken.  I haven't tried it.  She's got 91 Mysticism, 88 Necro, and 74 Spellweaving.

    Very few people actually do that quest, most just ask a friendly bard to get the book for them.
    It only gives a tier 1 primer, and those aren't really all that helpful.

    You can cancel and accept a different random quest.  I got a Dreadhorn and Travesty.

    But most of my toons avoid the guy.
    Focus on what you can do, not what you can't.

    i got him too. its just another over powered spawn that only a couple of builds can solo otherwise get to begging for a group..or skip ot entirely. 

    i hope to one day defeat him out of principle lol
