Blunder cannon sustains damage even if never fired.

Some time ago I bought a blunder cannon from the pirate merchant and put it on the bow of my ship.  I have never put ammo in it much less fired it.  But twice now I have had to repair the blunder cannon.  First time it was moderately damaged and the second time was slightly damaged.

    cannons take damage when someone fires grape shot on your ship, maybe that's what happened?
