Spellweaving Gift of Renewal has to cast twice

As a tamer i love this gift of renewal spell.
But often i have to cast it twice on my pet before i works. I can hear the sound from casting, but no message about gaining Spirituality(non EJ account) or gaining HP for the pet is visible. I target the health bar of the pet when using it. Its on Classic Client.

    I suspect the pet was poisoned, If the target is poisoned, gift of renewal will cure the poison and will not heal, and will allow you to recast without the cooldown.
    I tell you the truth, tis better to do 10 damage on the right target than 100 damage on the wrong target.
