Hi Team Broadsword!

I want to start by thanking you all for keeping Ultima Online for so many players over the decades. None of us would be here without your passion and hard work for this important MMORPG!

I returned to Ultima Online for the New Legacy shard experience a few weeks ago; before this, I dipped into Atlantic for a few months (years ago) to familiarize myself with the game before the launch of New Legacy.

So, I am essentially still a brand new player to Ultima Online and several friends from my gaming community jumped into the New Legacy with me, all for the first time. Over the last few weeks, I have had a blast discovering the New Legacy and playing the Warrior Path on the Classic Client.

I also have a few notes about my experience with the Classic Client to share with the development team in case they are useful.

Please note I am using UO Assist and Ultima Mapper with the Classic Client.

The Classic Client

I decided to experience Ultima Online using the Classic Client. While the Enhanced Client has many important quality-of-life features, I was drawn to the Classic Client because of its cohesive and charming 2D art style.

From the stonework bordering the player's paper doll to the yellowed scrolls for the chat and skill windows and to the creatures and world - they all add up into a mosaic that is unmistakably a classic Ultima Online vibe.

And I believe many players enjoy the Classic Client for that reason, too. I am very happy that the development team is looking to upgrade the Classic Client soon with improved frame rates and a larger play window. These upgrades are exciting, and I look forward to them.

However, could the development team consider some additional improvements for the future? Here is my proposed wish list (and I would love for other players to chime in here, too)

Option for Grid Containers

I have learned to keep my classic containers fairly organized, but it does take some extra work. Looting mobs takes a little longer, as I have to move items around corpse containers to see what is there. Even worse, if I try to buy things from PC Vendors on the Classic Client, they are usually shown as a massive pile of items, making it impossible to thread through. I find myself logging out and into the Enhanced Client to pick through the items I am hoping to buy.

Players from my community, however, almost always instantly threw aside the Classic Client for the Enhanced Client (or Ultima Online in general) when they would open their backpacks and see a giant pile of items to sort through.

An option for grid containers in the Classic Client would be incredible!

Arm Sets

I am unsure if this is possible using just the Classic Client, but I am using UO Assist to save different weapon sets with my warrior, allowing me to switch out weapons as needed. If this is missing from the Classic Client, could the development team look at adding it in the future? I believe you’ve added the ability to save different Dress setups in the Classic Client; it would be great to add this feature, too.

Auto Loot

Players using the Enhanced Client can set up a custom loot Agent that allows players to hover up a select number of items from containers. This is a massive Quality of Life feature for the Enhanced Client that has long been missing from the Classic Client, and given how much looting you do in Ultima Online, this almost makes me want to give up on the Classic Client in favor of the Enhanced Client.

I am not sure of the work involved in implementing something like this, but if the development team could provide the Classic Client with a similar feature/Agent, that would be game-changing for myself and I am sure many Classic Client loyalists.

Improved In-Game Map

Another needed upgrade for the Classic Client would be the in-game world map. It is very telling that almost all Classic Client players need to use approved third-party map applications like Ultima Mapper, etc., to navigate the game world. It would be a huge boost to the Classic Client to improve the in-game map with:

- Icons for all points of interest

- The ability to add custom markers/points of interest

- The ability to see players in your party on the map

Zoom In/Out

This is less critical than the above, but it would be fun to have the ability to zoom in and out of the game screen. Similar to what is available in the ClassicUO-approved web client for Ultima Online. ^_^

That's from me! Would be great to hear what other players may want to see eventually added to the Classic Client

Got a suggestion from dragor2691 on the New Legacy Discord server. They had trouble posting to the forum so I promised to help share their comment in case the developers check out this post and track some of these suggestions for the future:

"I tried posting a comment on the Classic Client wish list, but it won't let me. I would love to see the mouse wheel be able to be used for last target and target self in the Classic client. If it is already possible, I haven't been able to figure it out."

I wanted to provide a quick correction here. According to Matte from Cah, you can actually setup weapon-switch macros in the Classic Client. Here is what he shared:

"... You actually can preset weapons to macros already in the CC. It works like this:

-setup a macro for “RecordArm -> Arm 1” for (for example) alt-shift-F5
-equip your chosen weapon, press the recordarm macro to save that weapon to Arm 1
-setup a macro for “Arm -> Arm 1” for (for example) shift-f5

Now any time you press shift-f5, the recorded weapon for Arm1 will automatically appear in your hand. You don’t have to disarm your previous weapon/book, either.

You can do this for four Arm slots (Arm1 to Arm4) in the very same process as above."
