The game has basically gone fully 'HvH'. It's been that way for years in PVP but it's crossed over in to PVM because the no lifers realize they can make less than minimum wage multibox farming whatever. The market will, or already has, gone full incestious in the sense that the cheaters are farming stuff for other cheaters, and then those cheaters are buying stuff from other cheaters. Are prices low? Sure, but when everything farming or worth playing the game for is worthless how can a legitimate player even earn some coin to buy stuff in the first place. The only way it will stop is if they ban and disallow the 3rd party clients from connecting to the servers. After they stop the 3rd party clients they need to action those players to send a message they don't tolerate them. Who am I kidding though, they who be in charge are cowards. EJ IP limit is great and all but anyone with a brain can get around it as I've still seen many EJ farms operate, with (young) tags and all lol. The legitimate players I know including myself have decided to vote with our wallets and either close secondary accounts or flat out quit. Speaking of which my mains game time is running out soon then it'll be lights out for me. Freedom!

EA had the opportunity to nip this in the bud back in 2006 with Punkbuster. They backed off of that though because too many people were afraid that PB would scan their computer and detect their stash of midget porn.
I was PvPing heavily back then, and saw the proliferance of speedhacks and scripts in PvP, and said "Eventually PvP will mean "Program vs Program" instead of "Player vs Player". May the best script win." Now that there's third party clients literally with scripts built right into it, that day has arrived.
My moniker "PlayerSkillFTW" is due to the fact that i was one of the last legit players that heavily PvPed then, and i had to rely on my skill, knowledge, and wits to beat opponents that were utilizing scripts and speedhacks.

But Punkbuster was garbage? Lol. It hardly did anything for the titles it was on at the time and even modern equivalents of Punkbuster, such as EasyAntiCheat (common in lots of Unity games), are trash. They only operate at the highest levels and scan your memory for common signatures of cheat programs... not only taking a team to keep up with it but ignoring any private cheats. We're not talking kernel level anti cheats like Vanguard for Valorant or server side ai-assisted anti cheats like Valve's VAC Live. Punkbuster would have done NOTHING, please stop saying this we're almost 2 decades out and knew better at the time and still know better lol.

Punkbuster was garbage and it wanted access to all of your computer.  Nothing was invisible to it so it had access to your banking, personal info, email accounts, you name it it had access to it.  HELL NO to punkbuster.  And is was known for false positives and would block access to all your games not just UO and getting that false positive removed was impossible.

Didn't we go through a short period of time where our curser would jump to a random location?

That annoyed so many that they took it away.
