Pet attack during ToT Event

I've been having a problem getting my pet to start attacking in Deceit. I mostly hunt in the Ram room and when giving my pet a order to attack it ignores me. I find that I have to attack first so the mob targets me and have my pet in guard me in order for it to attack. This is a real problem when someone else is attacking and I want to assist them. Am I doing something wrong or is there an answer to this? Thanks!
