"We each get a participation award of half points just for turning up? even if an opposing guild wins the altar or steals a sigil.

My first reaction is this is a stupid bug.
But maybe it's intended...

However this is most definitely open to exploitation when EJ accounts can gain points,

step 1)create account
step 2) join VvV and hide in obscure place in town (and thanks to an exploit, you can really really be obscure)
step 3)repeat
step 4)..
step 5)...
step 6)profit?

    Guilded EJ accounts receive 50 points if someone claims alters or returns sigs. 100% positive

    EJ accounts have startup points so I figured it was intended they earn points.

    EJ account testing:

    -earn 100 points if a member of the same guild claims alter
    -earn 50 points by being hidden while another guild claims alter

    *assume stealing sigs give the same points

    Intended gameplay or overlooked bug??
