Ultima Online NAMING Policy for in game characters....

Is the Naming Policy for in game characters listed here still valid ?

https://www.uoguide.com/Ultima_Online_Naming_Policy

This, particularly where it says :
"4. Any name that is defamatory or attempts to defame the reputation of another account holder, an employee of Electronics Arts, property of Electronic Arts or Electronic Arts itself. The use of derogatory, defamatory or offensive content in conjunction with names of famous or important historical, political or religious figures."
The reason I am asking, is that, on a Shard I play sometimes, I have seen a character writing in General Chat with a name which, at least to my opinion, should be considered in violation of the above provision.

Yet, even though I have reported this several times, I keep seeing that character name appear in General Chat.

And no, do not ask what this character name is and on what Shard because I am not going to say it (naming and shaming is not allowed).

Page on them and explain why it offends.

Do it when they talk in chat and you can choose the account info.

If GoldMan was not allowed they will probably change theirs.  :D

Once a person used my name and I just happened to say I was going to Atlantic and does anyone want something brought back.

That person said give the items to "their char name there" someone paged on them and they came in chat with a new name a little later raging at me.  :D

    I didn't page on them.

I did, wrote Account ID, another time clicked on character which I saw at Bank... yet, I keep seeing that character with that name which, atleast to my opinion, is in clear violation of that section 4 of the naming Policy for characters in Ultima Online, if itis still valid as it is written at that UOGuide Link....

Ya but you can not try to cheat other players using someone's name. That falls under defaming.

@popps did you explain WHY it offends you?  You did not mention that part.

Also you can bait someone into announcing they made the name to offend someone.

We got a guy to explain why he was putting bag balls in the star room.  To block players.  He did not do it again.  The GM can see chat logs.

If you had read that name, you would have better understood my argument.... as a hint, it is a name which more likely americans could likely understand (and get offended from...), rather then players from other nationalities...,

Again, did you explain why it was offensive in the page?  You can not count on the GM understanding why you think it is offensive.  If you do not explain a page you make in the comment section, nothing happens usually.

It is a name and if you are getting that upset by a name then please tell me how you function in the real world with all the shit that is going on.  You keep dancing around about how bad this name is and how much it offends you, did you think that you may need to go seek help and step away from a game that may trigger your delicate self.

Man lay off Popps! I have seen some pretty offensive names in the game and they are still here. It may be  name like Barracoon...ever think about that??

I had a friend name his necro Knee Krow Ownage and he got paged on and had to change it because someone said it sounded too much like Negro, yet I see characters with names MUCH worse still running around.

You say how you function in the real world? You mean the real world that makes an online game change the name of a champ boss because after 24 years it's offensive??

The real world where Aunt Jemima syrup had to change the name? The real world were now the ACE commercials no longer say *Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man* and now say *Ace is the place with the helpful hardware FOLK* because saying MAN is gender bias??

Yes there are some very offensive names in this game.

Then why do Multiplayer Games have Policies for naming players' characters in the first place ?

Sometimes, a name can be offensive for a number of reasons be them gender, racial, political etc. etc. if they are "just" names, why then, do Multiplayer Games, usually, have policies and restrictions about what names players could name their characters, if I may ask ?

Say the name or leave it alone. you have asked your question, now move on and wait for an answer from the Dev's. or maybe email Mesanna directly. You're just stirring up Sh*t by continuing to discuss it.

This is hilarious. How has this guy not received a warning about trolling yet? He literally creates these threads to passively aggressively argue with people while he acts like a dolt.

The resolution has already been given, if you want to be like Pawain then page on the person and if you still see their name obviously the GM didn't think it was against the rules. If you want to do like 90% of everyone else does, just ignore them literally by using the ignore option in the game and carry on with your life.

Honestly if you are offended by names/RNG/luck/(insert other locked popps thread)/pixels then maybe you shouldn't play the game because you're on here every day with some other new complaint about how a 25 year old game isn't working how you think it should.

@Mariah - I think we can safely assume this is yet another troll thread created to kill time and you can lock it since his question has been answered.

We can simply ignore the rest of the thread if the OP post is already questionable. There is no need to waste time to reply and keep bumping this thread up.

For this issue if it’s an abuse, @popps if the name is so offending, you should email Mesanna directly, confront them during Meet and Greet, or call their office. Why should this thread last longer than others with similar issue. So much to write about.

Just an example. Cute? Yes....offensive? To some maybe. This one is a tame one compared to others I've seen.  Like I said my friends char named KNEE CROW OWNAGE had to change his name because he got paged on...this name? Same thing.

Sorry this is the NEW WOKE thing of the new cancel crowd bullcrap.  People need to grow up.  Yes some of our history is messy but changing names or destroying shit doesn't make it just go away like some people think it will.

Some months ago I came across a character named for a particularly nasty porn image that was going around several years ago. I know about it because someone posted it in Stratics Europa board and I was the unfortunate person who found it. Having felt like I wanted to wash my eyes at the time, a reminder was not something I wanted to see in game. Obviously I reported it, but not wanting to see this unpleasant name again, I put it on my ignore list. I don't know whether the name was changed or not, but I had solved the problem for my own personal experience. I suggest @popps follows my example.

when idocs started on all shards i made gargs and named most of them Gargamel. yesterday was 1st time i heard this but it was yelled many times on a few shards last night, that my name Gargamel is offensive to jewish players. They said i have been paged on tons of time for that name, and im getting banned for it. I picked the name cause of the smurfs and i play gargoyles. Im sorry if the names upsets anyone, that wasnt the reason i picked it.

I had to google that :

According to French sociologist Antoine Buéno, Gargamel is suggestive of a stereotype of a Jew,[5] having a big nose, magic powers, love of gold, and keeping a Mezuzah by the door of his hut (clearly identifiyable in several panels of the comic).

In addition, Gargamel's cat Azrael’s name in Hebrew actually means “God is my helper” (in Israel he is called “Hathattul” which is composed of the Hebrew words `Hat` - which is fear in Hebrew, and `hatul` - cat; literally meaning "fearsome cat"). In both Jewish and Muslim tradition, Azrael is the name of the angel of death. In addition to that, it was a Jewish name, so it could be used as an injoke for Delporte's Jewish wife.[6][7]

On the other hand, the name "Gargamel" is not a Jewish name but taken from Rabelais' classic Gargantua and Pantagruel, where Gargamelle is the mother of Gargantua and a giant, which is appropriate since Gargamel is a giant compared to the Smurfs. The name was suggested by Yvan Delporte. Azrael was also suggested by Delporte, who considered "angel of death" an appropriate name for the would-be killer of Smurfs, and he also liked the rhyme with Gargamel.

@Larisa I'm sorry to say your friend chose the wrong part of the anatomy for his name to be read correctly, and not wilfully misread by someone with an axe to grind.  He should have chosen neck instead of knee :D
