Some things do not go inside the crate: Shields, cloth items, necklace/medallions, Jewelry and arcane armor. Items from boss drops. I have not tested many Headwear.

I would not wish a hodge podge skill set on any new player. I tried in in October 97 though the 2000s. It was not a good system. After you have learned the mechanics you can tell others about it or complain. Your choice.
